As this long journey nears its end, this penultimate stage is interesting and varied as well as challenging. In Sedbergh the Dales Way, last seen on Day 2, is met and is followed through Millthrop and over and into Dentdale. The next 4 miles are truly delightful as the path stays very close to the River Dee in this lovely valley. Whilst the stage is a long one, with a climb to come, the opportunity to walk through Dent should not be missed.

The climb is that of Whernside, one of the Three Peaks, and the route uses an ancient track to reach the shoulder with an easy walk along the ridge to the summit. The initial steep part of the descent cannot be missed as it forms part of the course of the Three Peaks Challenge but thereafter the descent is gradual with some fine limestone features. There are improving views of the famous Ribblehead Viaduct which carries the Settle to Carlisle railway and of Ingleborough over which the final stage of this journey goes. The day ends with a walk down half of the wonderful tourist attraction that Ingleton boasts – the Waterfalls Walk.
